to-do

You’ve already learned one of the most important influencers in how you feel about your to-do list. What was that again?

Answer: Momentum. We need that stuff.

Did you read all about it in PART 1? If not, go ahead and pause on this article, read Part 1, then come back to Part 2.

We know that momentum is important and we also know that we don’t want just any ol’ momentum. We want momentum that’s weaved with Peace and Balance. This is the difference between loving and hating the work that you do.

Sounds important, doesn’t it?

And how do we make sure that we’re investing in high quality momentum?

Answer: Pause and regroup.

Have you already tried the “pause and regroup” after working with Part 1? If so, what kind of value did it create for you? How did it affect the quality of time spent “working”?

But the work you need to do to reclaim your Peace and Balance doesn’t stop there, there’s even more you can do to:

  • Make your list feel less burdensome
  • Enjoy your time spent “working”
  • Enjoy your progress
  • Track your progress
  • Free up physical, mental, and emotional energy.

When Is This Due?

Much of the overwhelm and scattered focus that you experience while working with your list is due to poor time management.

When you are able to prioritize the items on your list, everything becomes much more relaxed.

Most of us don’t even have an actual, tangible list. It’s more like a cloud of worriment with floating reminders, memos, and notes. It’s a wonder that anything is ever accomplished without the proper documentation.

So what’s Step 2 of the 3 Powerful and Proven Steps to Outwit Your Scary To-Do List?

Answer: Create an actual to-do list.

Most of you are working with Smart Phones. If so, there are perfect apps out there to help you create, manage, adjust, and organize all of your to-dos. If you prefer to not use your phone, you may use a small notebook (one that can easily fit in your pocket or bag).

But if you want the freedom you long for, you have to take your list one step further.

You must prioritize.

In order to prioritize the items on this list, you must separate them into today, tomorrow, this week, and this month categories. This way you always know what is to be addressed and when.

There’s never any confusion about what you should be working on, which can be a huge distraction for most of us. You know what this feels like, don’t you?

There’s this “work limbo” where you know you should be working on something, but can’t decide what needs your attention the most.

When you are able to separate the items on your list, you’ll know what to work on today and in what order.

Imagine waking up, looking at your list, and knowing exactly what lies in store for you today. It’s like having a personal secretary to help you keep track of what’s most important. Who couldn’t use a personal secretary?

This allows you to save, spend, and allocate your energy based on the type of work your “Today” list requires.

For example, if you look at your to-do list for “Today” and see that it is a “light work load day”, you may spend your reservoir of energy on something else, something enjoyable, something outside of “work”. Or, you may choose to use this time to tackle one or a few items on your “This Week” or “This Month” list.

However, if you look at your list and see that “Today” is a “heavy work load day”, then you know to save your energy. You’ll know to get ample sleep the night before, take nutritious snacks with you, make sure you drink enough water, and so on.

And the truth of it is, you’ll never know how rewarding creating, organizing, and prioritizing your to-do list can be until you try it. You’ll know the value when you feel the satisfaction of slashing through items on your list and simultaneously freeing up more time to spend on not “work” things.

All of this of course leads to more momentum, increased productivity,  peace of mind, and personal success.

Sounds like it could be worth a try, huh?

Your Next Step

Make four to-do lists. One for Today, Tomorrow, This Week, and This Month.

Consider using an app on your Smart Phone or a small notebook. Experiment and use whatever you find works best for you.
